In this article time for a raise by: Patricia Smith. This article is about how Barack Obama wants to raise the federal minimum wage to nine dollars an hour. It is also about how people think if this is a good idea or not. This article includes quotes from the president and represents ivies for business, and also includes facts on the topic. One quote that stood out to me was “this single step would raise the incomes of millions of working families” this quote stood out to me because the president had a view of the situation that if he went through with raising the minimum wage that it would help people and be a very good idea. Another quote stated “making employees more expensive for companies to hire might increase unemployment. This view is the opposite of the president they know this idea would lead to unemployment which is already high. I think that this could be a good idea because people who get minimum wage we be doing better and would not have to rely on the government for help. But I also think this could end up bad because people could possibly lose their job and its more people that will have to get on unemployment. This article reminds me of a situation when my aunt was on unemployment for a year and really didn’t get a lot of money and in her lifestyle she spends a lot of money on certain things and could not spend as much money as she used to. This article made me think about how people may be struggling off their minimum wage and they would be happy if they could get more money. But then people will possibly lose their jobs and become on unemployment and this could make the economy worse.

Korean War part 2?

In the article Korean War part 2? By: CHOE SANG-HUE IN SEOUL the article is about how ever since the end of the Korean war North Korea and South Korea have coexisted on each other side of a tense an heavily found demoralized zone and now the leader of north Korea Kim Jong Un has raised the threat of military confrontation and is threatened to launch a “pre-emptive nuclear strike” against south Korea and United states. This article includes quotes from ambassadors and professors. “the Korean peninsula is heading into a difficult and very dangerous period” says Donald Gregg a former ambassador of U.S. to south Korea I think he is saying this because he thinks when it comes to Korea they don’t have nothing on the U.S when it comes to war. I think that the leader of North Korea should calm down and stop saying threating things because it can lead to another war. This article reminds me of a story in my life when a girl I know was threatening a lot of people over social networks and when they saw her in person it started a riot this reminds me of this situation because he is sending threats and it could possibly end up horrible. This article makes me think outside my life and put myself in other countries shoes and try to understand how other people in different countries don’t have freedom like the U.S does. It also makes me feel bad for the other countries. This article makes me wonder does every country leaders have crazy mindsets. I also wonder why the North Korea leader can’t be overthrown so they can get a new leader.

elephants slaughter

In the article Slaughter of the African Elephant.  Samantha Strindberg and Fiona Maisels explain how poachers are killing the elephants for their ivory. It also explains that more and more elephants are getting slaughtered each and every day and that elephants are in danger of becoming extinct. The article includes facts from experts one fact is poachers attacked a family forest elephants in central Africa this fact is important because this is what the article is mainly about and because people should know that the elephants are going through. Another important fact is poaching is big business, involving organized-crime cartels every bit as ruthless at those tracking narcotics, arms and people. This statement to me was very important because people probably don’t think it’s a big deal but it is very serious to certain people and it’s sad. I think that that the poachers are wrong and these elephants are not put on this earth to be slaughtered they are there to live like humans are. This article reminds me of a movie about drug trafficking when people had to hide drugs in their butt and if they get caught they will be in trouble this reminds me of the elephants because when they get caught their in trouble because they get killed. This article makes me think that everything on the planet is useful and things they sometimes we think are not important are really important also things should not be killed because they are have things that are useful for things. This article makes me wonder how long the elephants were in harm and how many other animals will don’t know are in harm.

Sugar wars by: Veronica Majerol is about how the size of a drink gets bigger and bigger every couple years it’s also about how in America the obesity rate is very high and how the tax on sugary drinks should go up. This article includes quotes from the mayor of New Jersey and professors from colleges. “obesity is a nationwide problem” said mayor Bloomberg. I didn’t know obesity was as big of an deal. One quote that stood out to me was “we know that people die from bad consumption pattern” this stands out to me because it’s like people don’t  care about their health and that their trying to change public norms. I think that they should stop trying to make the drinks bigger because the price goes up and its not healthy for the drinks to be that big because its more sugar that will be in them. This article reminds me of when I went to wendys and my aunt asked for a small and her small was big and she said are you sure that this is a small and it was. This article makes me think a lot more on this topic and how the size of the drink could affect a lot of people. It makes me think that people in this society is very selfish they just want to make money and not care about anyone’s health issues. This article makes me wonder why things change constantly and why people who are unhealthy continue to buy unhealthy things.

Cyber war by: Patricia Smith is about how the U.S. could be facing a cyber pearl harbor from china and Iran. This is also about how the hackers could do anything to harm the U.S and how the U.S could do the same. This article includes quotes. One quote that stood out to me was “it proved you don’t have to be sophisticated to do a lot of damage” quoted by Richard Clark. This quote stuck out to me because what he is saying is true also it stuck out because it scares me because any ordinary person could cause damage. I think the U.S should be very careful because when we attack they could attack us right back. I also think that they should maybe leave their enemies alone until they attack them first. This article reminds me of something that happened to my cousin and her friends when people used to mess with her she used to wait until they would attack her but they never did so she learned to leave it alone or attack them first. This article makes me think that my country is not really innocent and they did a lot of thing that harmed people. It also makes me feel that we could be in danger because they don’t approve in our country and don’t like our country. This article makes me wonder what things the U.S did to any other countries and what other countries don’t like us and if other countries are plotting on the U.S.

In the article Obama’s Slave Roots By: Sheryl Gay Stolberg the article is about Barack Obama roots and his background of slavery and his moms European side. This article is also about its becoming more mixed-race heritage. In this article it is quotes from researchers and people from ancestry. Com one quote that stood out to me was “it is becoming increasingly common for Americans to discover mixed-race” from a researcher on ancestry.com.  this quote stands out to me because a long time ago mixed-races were not allowed so for more to be involved in them is interesting to me.it also stood out because the statement is really true and shows you that people get along more because of mixed-races.  I think it’s interesting for you to have a slave background because you learn more about yourself and you previous family and you know where you came from. It’s also kind of helpful because it shows where you came from. This article reminds me of the movie roots because the person who made the movie traced down all his slave family and documented them in a movie. There were also mixed-races in roots but the slaves would get raped and when it was not really allowed. This article made me think more deeply of this topic because I want to look in my family roots and see where I came from and my ancestors looked like. It also makes me think how society feels about mixed-race relationships. This makes me wonder why the person who made ancestory.com made it and how they started it and where it came from.

In this article “Philadelphia superintendent identifies schools he intends to close by: Kristin A. Graham. This article is about how the superintendent plans to close thirty seven schools and it would help them because it would help save their money that really messed up the school district and by closing the schools it would regain the money that they lost. This article includes quotes from the author and people from the school district. One quote that stuck out to me was “this is a historic moment” this sticks out to me because nothing like this ever happens and it will really be historic to people. I think that they should try to reduce the amount of schools that there closing because it would be more students in more school and that can cause trouble and confusion. The question I would ask is it not anything else they can do to regain the money that they lost rather than close thirty seven schools because I think they they should not do it because it can possibly mess up things. This article makes me think more about this topic because it’s getting more serious and this affects a lot of kids and kids might not want to go to different schools. This article makes me wonder what happened to the school district and when they lost all their money.
